This was a chill weekend. Friday night I went to Burbank and spent some quality TV time with Caroline. She had plans to be busy over the weekend so we were going to be distanced from one another.
Saturday morning, I got home in time to play some Burnout 3 with Jon (Big Pants) Regul. Then we headed to Chipolte for some burrito lunch and back to the house for big game baseball action. As you now know, the Angels and Dodgers are in and the Giants are out. I had to put Jon on suicide watch, but he made it through the night.
I started cleaning up/out the space formerly know as The Lounge to make room for The Lounge Reloaded. I moved the desk next to the wet bar, sold my Sony stereo on Craigslist for $30 (with surround speakers), put books in the proper bookshelf location, dusted, set/hooked up the TV, and moved the recliner upstairs. The Lounge is looking private. I still have to get a DVD player, Netflix, wireless 5.1 headphones, cable box, fridge, and some velvet rope to keep out the bums. Just in time for the playoffs, NFL, and the NBA season. I would also like to get an iMac G5 upstairs and an office chair. But I dont feel a rush to do that.
This weekend, I also moved the cable modem for upstairs to downstairs, fine-tuned the settings and helped Jon install his WIRELESS printer. Its pretty cool. He presses print on his desk and it prints out behind him on his bookshelf. Also, its totally accessible on the network, after you install the software drivers. Only a few more cables to eliminate, the quest for a wireless world is almost complete.
UPDATE – - The less you know, the more you learn. So I missed an important aspect of the router system. If you have two routers with DHCP, you need to disable DHCP on one of the routers. The xBox Live is now faster than ever. For those who care, the details are after the break.
Each computer on a network needs to have an address. By having an address, the router knows where to send data. But the address does not have to be the same everytime. DHCP is a protocol that manages the address of the computers on your network. When you turn on your computer (or replay, or xbox, etc), the computer asks the router what it’s address will be. The router gives the computer an address and when you turn off the computer, it gives the address back. Now, if you have two routers, and they both want to manage addresses, then you have two routers giving one computer two different addresses. When data comes in, one router sends it to one locaton, the other router sends to another location. So you must disable DHCP on one of the routers. And that I did not do untill tonight. Now it’s working faster than ever.
I just booked an appointment to have your digi-box installed on Wed. between 1p and 6p.
Sorry will have to miss our workout tonight. Plan to get torn up this week though!
Thank you Cable Angel, I can’t wait to get my hands on a universal remote. It’s been so long. Since Sunday, actually.
T-Bone, you can tear me up anytime. See you when you get back in town.
From Above:
Noise you should have a TV show demonstrating all your mastery of intricate home management. I can probably pitch it to the network here.
YOU ARE THE REAL “HOME IMPROVEMENT” GOD~~!!
amazing.
Do you do outcalls?
Please, pitch my smarts to the powers that be. I have updated my entry, I hope you learn something when reading it. BTW – What network are we speaking of?
I do house calls.
