Last nigh I say the greatest show on earth. Thirty-five year olds drinking in the car in the parking lot. What a sight. I was at the GW Forum waiting for the Madonna: Reinvention Tour to begin.
The crowd was late, but amped nonetheless. This would be my second date with the Material Girl (I saw her perform at Staples Center in 2001). The lights go down, silence, the show begins.
WOW…what an amazing show. Video screens and circus performers, it’s like MTV on crack. I was truly blown away by the multimedia aspects. They were jaw dropping. Everything just worked. The visuals they choose to put to the music were off the wall, but still made sense. It wasn’t crazy or spastic at all.
She also reinvented (see, I used the tour title, very creative) some of her classics. Express Yourself was a little more techno, Burning Up was a total rock song, Deeper and Deeper was a bit of a ballad, Like a Prayer and Holiday were jazzed up super-club mixes.
It was a great show. I would call it the greatest concert I have ever been to (and I’ve seen Matthew Hinojosa live as well as some folk singer named Lisa). Yes, it was even better than Nine Inch Nails – Downward Spiral.
All that being said, I now wait for Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor to gather they creative juice and plan a new tour using the latest technology. That would be an awesome show.
