Five Foot Staples

Here’s something cool. If you have an Apple computer with GarageBand 2.0 and you are a fan of Nine Inch Nails, you can download the code and libraries to the current single, The Hand That Feeds. Once downloaded, you can mix, sample, or destroy the original and mix it any way you want. These tracks are the original recordings from the session for The Hand That Feeds. That’s pretty sweet. So, tonight, I’m firing up the mac and messing with garageband.

Over the weekend I saw Sin City. It was pretty dope, but there was a time when I thought it was getting a little long. But then the action picked up again. In all, it’s a great movie.

Jung and I completed a podcast. I knew I was out of my league when, 10 minutes into the podcast, Jung came over and said, “Dude, you might want to write something down, like an outline.” Translation, this sucks, pick a train of thought and ride it. After that, we decided to make the podcast a new music vehicle. Try to break some unsigned artist as well as talk jibber-jabber.

So, as I said, we completed the podcast and Jung was mixing down the tracks, then the computer crashed and we had nothing. So we’ll try again this week. Hey Jung, how about Tuesday night?

Also Saturday night, I saw Toby’s new pad and Jung, Matt, Jon, Amy, Dave and I played a little cards. I took second in the tournment and won a little cash in the post-tournment cash game. It was just like the old days, except this time I left with money in my pocket.

Caroline went to Fresno (FRES-YES) over the weekend. She went with her parents to whoop it up in the big city. When she left, she was coming down with a cold, when she got home, it was a full blown coughing, stuffy-head kind of a night.

  1. It’s not out of your league. You just need some planning. Here’s what I think you should do: Chunk it up into segments, like a radio show, and repeat the same format every week.

    I’d suggest:
    * 1-2 songs per week that you found on the Net and people can download for free. Plug the band, plug the URL, ask for submissions. This is, like, guaranteed content.
    * Cool gadget/tech toy/Website service of the week. You already do this on your site. All you have to do is read what you wrote, or I can provide ideas. Remixing Trent Reznor with Garageband, Audioscrobbler, Airblogging, SmartWrap – you’ve got a ton of content already.
    * Restaurant of the week.
    * Observation on something about life in Los Angeles, or life in general, or maybe a news story, or something.

    That way people will know what to expect, and if they find the content interesting, they will subscribe, and you will become famous.

    The bar you should set for yourself is: “If I wasn’t me, would I listen to this? On a regular basis?”

    I’ll work with you to juice it up – we should do a theme song if you want to do this on a regular basis, and some sound effects. The xylophone is pretty funny but you just need to hold it closer to the mic.

    Tuesday is cool. World domination. Let’s make this podcast stand out from the rest.

  2. Thanks Jung, I’ve been thinking about the cast all da. I an downloading tracks and and writing an outline as I speak. Also, I found a site that has free intro music. I’ll see if I can find something.

  3. Hey, the Podcast sounds pretty good, if I may say so myself. Still need the pop filter, but it’s pretty respectable. You should plug it on your site!
