The history of communication is vast and volatile. Allow me to recap the past 3000 years.
First, there was body language. One caveman signaling another to “move over there”. Next, we have vocal command or speech. Again, “move over there”. Written communication in the form of symbols followed. I think smoke signals came next, but have little to no proof. After that we have written language in the form of words. Very advanced. The formal letter, printing press and then the “inner-office memo” were the norm during the 17th 18th and 19th century. But now its 2K4 and we have the telephone, cell phone, text messaging, IM, and voicemail (does anybody remember pagers?). And finally, there is email.
